Valle completely reconfigured the floor plan and spent almost five years returning the house to its neo-Classical roots, adding wood paneling, casting moldings based on original remnants, installing oak parquet floors and building a dramatic central staircase. After coating the walls with Venetian plaster, the couple were finally able to turn their attention to furnishings, pulling together their signature, somewhat unlikely combination of midcentury, contemporary and folk art-inspired pieces. The shared aesthetic is one that they first developed while working on their own properties — a loft in Brooklyn and an 1862 farmhouse in northwestern Connecticut — and are now showcasing at Casa Valle, a TriBeCa gallery space that offers pieces from Valle’s furniture line alongside the couple’s curation of mostly Scandinavian antiques. “It all has a cohesive feeling,” says Valle of the mix they favor. “We’ll throw in one or two particularly bold pieces and then a few things that contrast [with] our aesthetic — something ‘off’ to make it all work.”
